Everybody is talking about our brandnew Feather Cutter! For an easy use of our Bearpaw Feather Cutter we made this online manual for you. You can also find it in our navigation menue on the left hand side of this blog under the name “Manuals”.
Let Sandra show you how easy it is to use our brandnew Bearpaw Feather Cutter:
Hello and welcome everyone! In a few words, I’ll tell you how to use the Bearpaw Feather Cutter correctly.
This is how the Bearpaw Feather Cutter comes in original packaging into your house. Once you have freed the Feather Cutter and the punching knife of their packaging, you can already start:
First, the cutting knife must be inserted into the Bearpaw Feather Cutter. Swing open the Feather Cutter and unscrew the two screws on the top inside of the lid with the supplied Allen wrench.
On the upper side of the punching knife, you can find a labelling identifying feather shape, length, and version. Please use only RW feathers for the RH forms, and LW feathers for the LH forms.
On the back of the knife you will find a small arrow. This arrow must point upwards when inserting the punching knife – only this way will the punching knife screw in.
When the knife is inserted – tighten the two screws with the Allen key.
You then clamp the feather between the two sponge rubber strips and the feather will hold by itself on the base plate.
If you adjust the height of the base plate, both the feather length and the height of the feather can be finetuned. Please make sure that the keel of the feather is struck by the punching knife, so that the keel is cut cleanly.
When the desired length of the feather is set, we only have to tighten the screws, close the Feather Cutter and can already start punching.
By a sharp blow with a rubber mallet the desired shape is cleanly punched out from the full feather. Please note that you must always make between 3 to 5 punches with a new base. Then the base plate is “stamped in” and fully operational. If you change the feather form, a change of the base plate is recommended. The original feather form is stamped into the base plate and can affect the cutting result.
As a final hint: The Feather Cutter will work most precisely, if you try to always hit the highest point of the feather form with your rubber mallet.
The punching knife is really sharp – during the punching process no part of the body may ever be between the base plate and punching knife ;-).
